Interview with MoneyFM 89.3; Should companies do away with executive chairman roles?

Our Joint Managing Director, Mr Mark Lee was recently invited to speak at MoneyFM 89.3’s Linkedin Live session on whether companies should do away with executive chairman roles. Does it bridge board oversight and management during transitions? Or does it create conflicts of interest, blur accountability, and weaken governance?

Joined by Mr Silvester, Managing Director of Silvester Legal LLC, the discussion traversed issues of board compositions, the functions of an executive v. non-executive chairman, corporate governance and shareholder expectations.

Ultimately, Mr Mark Lee opined that an executive chairman role may potentially still have a positive impact on a company if the role sets out to facilitate succession, ensure that there are no crashing of gears during transition and to encourage the rejuvenation of the company.

The key to a company’s success, in Mr Mark Lee’s view, is not determined by one person / one role but the cultivation of a system that attracts talent and which rewards everyone fairly and openly.
